Představujeme Ultrabooky

1.6.2014

The good: New slim design; updated hardware with discrete graphics; reasonably priced.

The bad: Some parts of the laptop feels budget; battery life is decent, but not outstanding.

The bottom line: Dell has managed to give a very upscale feel to its mainstream Inspiron 14z, a 14-inch Ultrabook that comfortably juggles price, design, and performance.

Why it's a good deal: Dell has managed to make this mainstream Ultrabook more attractive than its price tag would suggest. The discrete graphics option is also much welcomed.

CNET Asia rating: 7.2 stars

The good: Attractive design; backlit keyboard; affordable starting price; Beats Audio.

The bad: Screen resolution is merely adequate; battery life could be better; chassis has some flex.

The bottom line: A snazzy design injects much-needed excitement to this Envy 4 laptop, which otherwise features some fairly standard hardware.

Why it's a good deal: The stylish and affordable HP Envy 4 offers a slightly more capable configuration that includes a discrete graphics chip while still being reasonably light and slim.

4. Lenovo IdeaPad U310

The good: Good looking; affordable; good selection of connectors.

The bad: Screen has poor offaxis viewing; no backlit keyboard; keyboard shows some flex; battery life could be better.

The bottom line: The attractive design of the U310 is likely to give it a narrow edge over its rivals, but there isn't too much difference under the hood.

Why it's a good deal: It's not as slim as Lenovo's premium ultraportables, but it looks just as good. The competitive hardware specifications and pricing doesn't hurt either.

5. Sony Vaio T

CNET Asia rating: 6.9 stars

The good: Distinctive industrial design; good selection of ports and connectors; affordable.

The bad: Heavy for its size; thick, ugly bezel; not as slim as competing Ultrabooks; no backlit keyboard; battery life could be better.

The bottom line: Sony's first Ultrabook ports the Vaio design DNA to a surprisingly affordable package, though not without some compromises.

Why it's a good deal: The Japanese company has finally bought its industrial design chops to the Ultrabook category. Despite some quirks, we were pleasantly surprised by the affordable price tag.
